Technical visualization and animation

Visualizing concepts in science, engineering, and architecture before they have physical existence is what led us to computer modeling and animation in the first place. Explaining ideas in their earliest stages to others in coherent, powerful ways led us to 3d animation, video production and editing. Some examples:

Construction/Architecture
We were asked to develop a visualization of a new type of a stackable elevator shaft module before one existed. We started from the single 2d side view provided by the client shown here, basically a 'back of the envelope' drawing.
From the sketch, we created two visualizations: one shows the reinforcing bar and steel interface elements and the other has the concrete structure poured around it, only the concrete is semi-transparent to show the inner structure to be seen. These images were designed to be used in presentations to potential backers for the concept.
Had the budget permitted, the next step could have been an assembly animation rendereed to a DVD showing how the modules are constructed, asembled, stacked on one another and adapted to buildings of various sizes.
